Tinnitus

Tinnitus is the hearing of a sound in your ear without an actual external sound being present. It is often perceived as squeaking, humming or whirring. Everyone has this from time to time, but for some it doesn’t go away and that can be very disturbing.

When tinnitus combines with jaw and/or neck pain, therapy will help. This form of therapy is called somatic tinnitus. The sound can be influenced by movements of the neck or jaws. Jaw physiotherapy has been found to be effective in 61% of cases for somatic tinnitus involving problems with the jaw joint or muscles. You will be treated and learn to relax the jaws and neck yourself. In the process, you will also be given meaningful exercises by the physio. Furthermore, together we look at what else affects tinnitus, as it is often a complicated problem. For example, stress or extra focus on the sound can intensify symptoms.
