Neck and back pain is are frequent physical discomforts. 80% of Dutch people experience 1 or more episodes of neck and/or back pain in their lifetime. In neck and back pain, we roughly distinguish between 2 categories: acute complaints and non-acute complaints. A manual therapist specializes in the area of the spine.

Acute neck and back pain
Acute spinal complaints (neck or back) are complaints that arise in a single moment. Colloquially, these complaints are also known as “lumbago.
Non-acute neck and back pain
Non-acute spinal complaints (neck or back) are complaints that have a long-term genesis mechanism, often related to sedentary occupations.
Examples of symptoms you may experience are:
- Low back pain, with radiation to one or both legs
- Neck/shoulder pain, with radiation to the arms and/or fingers
- Neck/shoulder pain, with radiation to the arms and/or fingers
- Certain forms of dizziness induced by movements of the neck
- Pain around rib cage on breathing/smiling/sneezing/coughing
